Good evening all!
Once again, we will be joining the T21 Club and neighboring counties for our annual Down Syndrome Awareness Day at the Phillies. The Phillies will be hosting our groups on Sunday May 3rd a 2:05PM start versus the Colorado Rockies. Based on positive feedback from last year’s game we will once again be offering the option of a game ticket only or game ticket / pregame tent party.
Date: Sunday, May 3rd
Game: Phillies v. Colorado Rockies
Game Time: 2:05pm
Seats: Section 206 or 207
(Handicap Accessible Seating is available).
For those who braved the elements last year and attended the pre-game party it was a very entertaining experience.
With that said let me explain our two options:
Option 1
Purchase a Game Ticket for $38.00.
Game ticket only in section 206 or 207. Children 2 and under are free.
Option 2
Game Ticket / Pregame Tent Party. Game Seats in 206 or 207
$78.00 for 11 years old to adult
$58.00 for 6 – 10 years old
$38.00 for 3 -5 years old with parent who purchased a $78.00 ticket
Ages 2 and under are free
The pre-game tent party will be from 12:00pm – 1:30pm and will include Food & Soft beverage, great music and dancing, face painters, and a Phillies gift item.
Commemorative tee-shirts will be available on a first come first serve basis.
The Phillies are honoring all women at this game with a Mother’s Day appreciation gift upon entering the ballpark.
We do have a limited number of accessible seats available.
Tickets must be ordered and paid for by March 31st.

Proceeds of the race will benefit The Delaware County Down Syndrome Interest Group (DSIG). DSIG is a 501(c) non-profit organization that was formed in 1990 by a group of families touched by Down Syndrome in Delaware County. They strive to promote professional and public awareness and encourage inclusion for those with Down Syndrome. Their goals are to reach out to expectant and new parents of a child with Down Syndrome, to be supportive of and provide social interaction for people with Down Syndrome, their families, friends and acquaintances, to aid and challenge each family to constantly evaluate and re-think how new ideas, information and technology may help or affect their child with Down Syndrome and to educate the general public by assisting members of our community in learning to see people with disabilities as people, not as their disability. DSIG will be teaming up with DSA of Delaware and Chesapeake Down Syndrome Parent Group to present two virtual conferences for our families. The first virtual conference will be held on Saturday, 1/23/2021, from 2pm-4pm, featuring Dr. Brian Skotko. This virtual conference will appeal to families of all ages. His webinar will be covering two topics, “Brain Train: Smart Actions That Might Boost Cognition and Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease in People with Down Syndrome” and “Keeping Children and Adolescents with Down Syndrome Healthy: All the Medical Updates that Parents Need to Know”. Please see the attached conference brochure for more details. There will be no fee to attend this conference as DSIG will be absorbing all costs for participants.
The second virtual conference will take place on Thursday, 3/4/2021, at 7pm, featuring Stacy Taylor, a behavior analyst, and is entitled “Toilet Training Tips & Tricks”. DSIG will be absorbing the cost of this virtual 1.5 hr. webinar. On Friday, 3/5/2021 and Saturday, 3/6/2021, there will be time slots for virtual 1-hour, One-on-One Behavioral Consults with Stacy Taylor and her team to address any toilet training focused or otherwise general behavior concerns you may have. These 1:1 sessions could be for any age for any concerning behavior your child, young adult or adult with Down syndrome is experiencing. The cost of each session is $100/hr., so DSIG is asking that each family who is interested in the 1:1 sessions, pay the $100 when they sign up for the session to secure your spot, and once you attend the session, DSIG will refund you $75 of the money that you paid for the session. Of course, if this would be a hardship for anyone who would like to attend, please let Patty know.

Presented by Libby Kumin Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Professor Emeritus Loyola University Maryland, part of a three-part series sponsored by CDSPG.
Presentation is targeted for parents of children from age 4 to adulthood.
How can we help children with Down syndrome develop speech that is easier to understand? There are many factors that affect speech intelligibility in children and adults with Down syndrome but the occurrence and combination of factors are different for each person. Dr. Kumin will present a framework that can be used for identifying, analyzing, and treating the factors that affect speech intelligibility for your child, e.g. rate, articulation, oral motor skills and childhood apraxia of speech. Attendees will learn how to write IEP goals that target factors affecting speech intelligibility in your child and how to develop a home-school communication plan and to use home activities to practice speech skills. Handouts, forms and checklists will be included.
