Need Help Navigating the Special Education System?
Does your head spin when you sit in IEP or IFSP meetings? Does it sound like they’re speaking a foreign language? What does inclusion mean for my child? Come to the October 22 meeting to hear discussions on these and other topics. Focus is on children who are age preschool to 21. Linda Cartwright, Parent Consult from the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) and mother of a son with Down syndrome, will introduce resources to families that help them be the best advocates for their children. Topics include: HELP, this is too overwhelming!; understanding your rights under the federal and state regulations of special education; how to navigate the PaTTAN website and other resources for families; how you can attend educational trainings for free; and introducing a newly-formed statewide parent network. Storytellers from the “A Fierce Kind of Love” storytelling workshops will take to the stage with their true tales about how disability affects families. The Down Syndrome Association of Delaware and the Delaware County Down Syndrome Interest Group are pleased to partner together to offer a Behavior and Boundaries Conference to their families. Dr. Lina Patel, an expert on the topic, will be offering three sessions (listed below).
