DSIG 25th Annual “Walk for Our Kids”

WOW!  It’s hard to believe that we will be celebrating our 25th year of our annual walk-a-thon!  The date has been set for the 25th Annual DSIG “Walk for Our Kids”!  This event is our major fundraising event for the year and allows us to continue to provide outreach and social activities for our families.  It’s a FUN morning and a great time to meet other families.  We will need people in the group to make contact with any businesses that they know to see if they are willing to become one of our $500 sponsors for the event.  As a $500 sponsor, their company logo will be featured on the back of the event t-shirt.  We will also need items for baskets from businesses, baskets donated by businesses and DSIG families & friends, and raffle and silent auction items.  The letter for donations is ready now, so if you have a business contact and need a letter, please send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I will get one out to them.  Hoping to have the walk brochures out by the end of this week, so look for that in your mail!  This event takes a lot of planning and volunteers will be needed, so I’ll let you all know in the near future where help is needed.  Any questions about this event, just give me a shout!

October RMM – Navigating the Special Ed System @ Hancock Church
Oct 22 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Need Help Navigating the Special Education System?

Does your head spin when you sit in IEP or IFSP meetings? Does it sound like they’re speaking a foreign language? What does inclusion mean for my child? Come to the October 22 meeting to hear discussions on these and other topics. Focus is on children who are age preschool to 21. Linda Cartwright, Parent Consult from the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) and mother of a son with Down syndrome, will introduce resources to families that help them be the best advocates for their children. Topics include: HELP, this is too overwhelming!; understanding your rights under the federal and state regulations of special education; how to navigate the PaTTAN website and other resources for families; how you can attend educational trainings for free; and introducing a newly-formed statewide parent network. Linda will give a brief presentation, followed by a Q&A. For information about PaTTAN, visit http://www.pattan.net.
